![]() ![]() The study of Shah and Khurshid dealt with the females' representation in textbooks of Urdu and English at Middle level while the purpose of the present study was to analyze Urdu and English books at Secondary level including class 9th and 10 th. This article is based on a study conducted in continuation of a study carried out by Shah and Khurshid (2004). So by keeping in view the above discussed points, the present study was designed. If the present situation continues it will create negative effects on the new generation. It is observed that in Pakistani books the female images are not positively portrayed. No doubt books play an important role in developing images. They are given no more importance throughout all walks of life. In developing countries like Pakistan, women are treating as inferior being as compared to men. Pedagogical implications of the study have been discussed. ![]() The findings are followed by analysis and interpretation with special attention given to the relationship between language sexism and ideology. The results of chi-square test indicated that there is a significant difference between the frequencies of male and female for different categories of this study. First, a content analysis was conducted on the data, and then the frequency of each category was calculated and compared with one another. Three categories in these textbooks were examined: male and female visibility in illustrations, texts and the male/female occupational roles. Four English textbooks currently taught in the Iranian high schools were chosen as a sample of this study. The paper points to areas that remain problematical in the design of textbooks. In effect, the research analysed the images in the series in terms of gender positioning in images from a Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) perspective. The series is used for female/male adult language learners from beginner to intermediate levels in King Abdulaziz University at the foundation year program, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
